Robins, Greg
Candidate for Councillor, District of North Vancouver
"I want to express my support for - the North Shore based - Flicka, the non-profit organization for gymnastics. It develops physical literacy, and it enables our children to lead active, healthy lifestyles throughout their whole life. Flicka is simply asking for equitable treatment in the location of a new facility. As Councillor, I commit my support to finding Flicka a new home. We cannot afford to have Flicka move off the North Shore."

Teevan, Peter
Candidate for Councillor, District of North Vancouver
I have seen how organized sports can enhance not only fitness, but co-ordination, confidence and social skills among our youth. One of our daughters benefitted from the Flicka program as a young girl and now she is a stand-out among her peers in her working life due to her passion and work ethic. Flicka is a valuable program for our North Shore Youth, particularly among our young girls. I believe we need to find a facility and location where Flicka can enhance rather than retract their programming whether that is in the new Harry Jerome or in another facility. I will work alongside Flicka and the new Council to find such a solution.
Hicks, Robin
Candidate for Councillor, District of North Vancouver
I have a long experience with Flicka. My three daughters all went through the program and more recently two of my grandchildren . The programs teach discipline , agility and expertise and even if the children don’ t continue to competitive levels they gain a lifetime experience . As an activity , particularly for children , Flicka should be supported in the same way as other sports ,swimming ,soccer , tennis etc , whereby the capital facilities are part of the Recreation facilities infrastructure and fees are based on a support level as those other sports .
Dupasquier, Phil
Candidate for Councillor, District of North Vancouver
I have been a Board Member of the North Shore Girls Soccer Club for the last 15 years and have coached a multitude of teams in both Soccer and Field Hockey. I understand the value of these programs to the athlete. They give the participant an outlet, a chance to forget about the other stresses in their life a to focus on the event they are in - be in the moment. This has a tremendously beneficial impact on the mental as well as the physical health of the athlete. At a younger age the participant benefits from increased motor skills, and coordination - its just good for you! As such I would support efforts for Flicka to find a new home. All of my daughters (I have 3) had the Flicka experience and they are all better off because of it.

Further I am an advocate for gender equality and as such the Flicka program should be recognized as having particular benefit to female athletes.

I believe the DNV should work with Flicka, and all other youth sport organizations, to ensure great programs are delivered. This starts with ensuring the proper facilities are there for training as well as for staff. Currently other sports (hockey, soccer ...) are using facilities that are owned by the DNV and I believe we should support gymnastics in a similar manner.
Elliott, Mark
Candidate for Councillor, District of North Vancouver
Flicka Gymnastics has excellent programs for kids. My daughter participated in some of their programs when she was younger, and although she didn't continue with gymnastics, she gained strength, agility, and most importantly confidence from the experience. I sincerely hope that all parties can come together after the election to find a reasonable solution to help keep Flicka in the community. Their programs have value for North Vancouver beyond just the future Olympians they train.
Harvey, John
Candidate for Councillor, District of North Vancouver
If Elected, that I would press to be assigned to the Nth Van Rec Commission and after getting much information from you and your Directors etc regarding Flicka that hopefully I can be more of a voice for Flicka and their long standing operations and gymnastic achievements at that table and your no doubt deserved consideration of Quality relocation in the future Harry Jerome plans.
